An Academic Delegation from Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University Visited Sharif

A meeting was held on March 8, 2017 in SUT’s International Affairs Office with the presence of Dr. Zabelin, Director of the Institute of Energy and Transport Systems, and Dr. Rassokhin, Head of the Department of Turbines, Hydro Machines and Aero-Engines. On the other side, Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Massoumian, International Affairs Consultant, and several other professors of SUT hosted the delegation.

In this meeting, the formation of Joint Degree Programs, Short-Term Programs and Joint Projects between the two universities, were discussed by the parties.

It’s worth mentioning that Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University is one of the top 10 universities in Russia.

A Delegation from Torino University, Italy Visited Sharif

A meeting was held on March 5, 2017 at International Affairs Office of SUT with the presence of Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, Ms. Tina Benmora, Head of Strategy, and several professors of SUT. In this meeting, expansion of the academic cooperation between two universities was stressed. The representative of Torino said that Italian students are enthusiastic about studying at Sharif.

It’s worth mentioning that Torino University is a technical university which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sharif in 2008.

An Academic Delegation from China Visited Sharif

A meeting was held on March 5, 2017 at Sharif’s International Affairs Office with the presence of Mr. Zheng Dengwen, Deputy Director-General of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Ms. Xu Fang, Vice President of Capital University of Economics and Business, Mr. Wang Gang, Deputy Director-General of Bureau of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Finance, and Mr. Gu Tiangang, Director of Beijing International Education Exchange Center. In this meeting, Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Massoumian, International Affairs Consultant, and Dr. Jahed, Director of International Students Office, were the representatives of SUT. In this meeting, student and faculty exchange programs between SUT and Beijing’s universities were discussed and both parties expressed their desire to expand academic collaborations.

The Ambassador of France Visited Sharif

A meeting was held on March 1, 2017 at Sharif University Presidential Office with the Ambassador of France, Mr. François SÉNÉMAUD, and Scientific Attaché of France Embassy, Mr. Pierre-André Lhôte. In this meeting, Professor Fotuhi, President of Sharif University of Technology, Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, and Dr. Massoumian, Consultant of International Affairs, were also present.  During the meeting, several statistics about the cooperation between Sharif and France’s universities were presented. Moreover, the expansion of scientific cooperation between SUT and France’s universities, in terms of student and faculty mobility programs, joint degree programs, sabbaticals, etc. was stressed.

A High-Ranking Delegation from Robert Bosch Foundation Visited Sharif

A meeting was held on February 28, 2017 at SUT’s presidential office with the presence of Dr. Fotuhi, President of SUT, Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Mokhtari, Director of Industrial Relations and several other professors of Sharif. On the other side, Joachim Rogall, CEO of Bosch Foundation and Ingrid Wuenning, Senior Vice President, were leading the delegation.

In this meeting, both parties expressed their desire to expand the scientific relationships in different areas.

It’s worth mentioning that Robert Bosch Foundation is one of the leading private charitable foundations of Europe which is active in the promotion of natural and social sciences.

A Representative from Trieste University, Italy in Sharif

A meeting was held on February 2, 2017 at SUT’s International Affairs Office with the presence of Dr. Angello Bassy, the professor of physics and the representative of the University of Trieste. Dr. Movaghar, Dean of SUT’s International Affairs, Dr. Massoumian, Consultant of International Affairs Office and several other authorities of SUT were present at the meeting. In this meeting, the formation of a joint degree program between the University of Trieste and SUT was emphasized and Dr. Bassy announced that a delegation from Trieste University will visit SUT in the near future.

Senior Advisor of UN on Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy in Sharif

The meeting was held with the presence of Thomas Andersson, UN’s Senior Advisor on Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy, on February 2, 2017 at Sharif University Presidential Office. Professor Fotuhi, President of SUT, Dr. Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Mokhtari, Dean of Industry Relations, and several other professors of Sharif were present at the meeting.

In his lecture, Andersson focused on the current situation of Iran in the world with respect to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) issues. He alluded to the extraordinary capacities of Iran in this regard and mentioned some of the obstacles. According to Andersson, Iran has moved from producing low-tech products to the development of medium-tech and high-tech products in the last decade or so. Moreover, the growth of international publications during the recent years has been outstanding in Iran.

Following the lecture, Andersson explained and analyzed the main obstacles for the development of STI in Iran. He ended his lecture with some suggestions on how to overcome these obstacles and make better use of the capacities of Iran.

The meeting was finished by the open-floor discussion of SUT’s professors with Andersson.

A Delegation from GROUPE RENAULT Visited Sharif

The meeting was held at SUT’s International Affairs Office on January 15, 2017 with the presence of Ms. Sophie Chazelle, Deputy Director-Corporate Foundation of GROUPE RENAULT, and Mr. Pierre-Andre Lhote, Scientific Cooperation Attaché of France Embassy. Professor Movaghar, Dean of International Affairs Office, Professor Mokhtari, Dean of Industrial Relations, Dr. Massoumian, Consultant of International Affairs Office, and several other professors of SUT, were the representatives of Sharif.

In this meeting, Ms. Chazelle focused on the RENAULT’s Academic Programs which are open to Iranian Students, including MBA, Master’s in Mobility and Electrical Vehicles (MVE), Master’s in Transport and Sustainable Development (TRADD), Master’s in Road Safety Management (MANSER), and Electric Vehicle and Electro-Mobility (LPVEE) Vocational Degree.  All of these programs are tuition-free for students and they will be also funded by RENAULT throughout the programs. She added that in these scholarships, students spend two years in France, one year of which would be for academic education followed by 3 months of laboratory works and 6 months of entrepreneurship. In addition, RENAULT will provide the successful students with a diploma at the end of the programs. Finally, Industrial cooperation between Sharif and RENAULT was also discussed in the meeting.

A Business Delegation from ACET-Global, Australia, in Sharif

A Business Delegation from ACET-Global, Australia, visited Sharif on January 18, 2017. The meeting was held at International Affairs Office of SUT with the presence of Mr. Shah, Managing Director of ACET-Global and two associates. Dr. Massoumian, Consultant of International Affairs Office of SUT, Dr. Sepehri and Dr. Talebian, from Graduate School of Management and Economics, were the representatives of Sharif.

Dr. Massoumian started the meeting by a brief presentation of Sharif. Afterward, Mr. Shah introduced the activities of ACET-Global. He stated that ACET is focused on corporate training and up-skilling staffs within organizations, specifically by providing about 200 intense and short-term courses, both online and physical. He added that ACET is ready to provide customized courses for Sharif, both in content and duration. Mr. Shah said that he is happy to hear that SUT has an active technology park and is pioneer in cooperating with industries. He explained to the participants that ACET is also active in Road Safety, Sanitation, Global Entrepreneurship, and Global Peace projects. For example, they are ready to define projects for SUT students on topics such as international dialogues and peaceful interactions between religions in the Middle East. He was informed that SUT has a transportation Institute and 3 Humanities departments and is happy to collaborate on these important topics.

SUT’s International Campus on Kish Island is Now Allowed to Accept International Students

Dr. Selk Ghaffari, President of International Campus of SUT on Kish Island, has announced that Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology has permitted SUTIC to accept International students. He added that the international campus of SUT was established in 2004 with the mission of admitting international students. Dr. Ghaffari also mentioned that the required infrastructure has been gradually provided and now the language of instruction is English. Furthermore, joint programs with best universities all around the world is possible, and teaching facilities as well as research labs are standard. He added that free zones, like Kish Island, are especially suitable to international students, because of visa-free entry policy and the good educational facilities of SUTIC.

It is worth mentioning that the International Campus of SUT contains two independent departments of science and engineering and management. Moreover, this campus is currently teaching 750 students, 135 of which are PhD students, 470 of which are MSc students, and the remaining are BSc students.
